Senior school toilet refurbishment in Cockfosters

Overview

At Southgate School, we completely refurbished and reconfigured the boys and girls washrooms, opening them up onto corridors to improve staff supervision whilst maintaining user privacy.

Design

The goal was to make supervision of washrooms easier whilst maintaining the students privacy. Our experience and meticulous design and planning was needed to achieve the desired effect. We cut out sections of the wall and created openings in the boys toilets which opened onto the main corridor and installed windows. The entrance to the girls toilets was also opened up. 

We designed both washrooms to accommodate the maximum number of cubicles, adhering to regulations by including an ambulant cubicle in the boys and a Doc M cubicle in the girls toilets. The project encompassed a full refresh, including new plumbing, electrical systems, painting, vinyl flooring, and hygienic wall cladding. Additionally, heating pipes emerging from the floor were re-routed to accommodate the new layout.

Special features

New-style solid grade laminate toilet cubicles, 2500mm high with no floor gaps, offered superior privacy while allowing natural light to filter in through the windows above the cubicles. In the hand wash areas, vanity units were topped with the durable Trovex Smarttrough complete with anti-vandal taps. The Smarttrough is made from a durable solid surface material which is highly resistant to vandalism. Anti vandal taps can not be loosened or pulled out and are also extremely durable. Combined together, they provide a vandal-resistant area. Existing dispensers were carefully removed, reused, and integrated with new mirrors.
