Toilet refurbishment at senior academy in Norfolk

Overview

Focus Washrooms worked on a project at Sapientia Educational Trust in Fakenham, Norfolk, completely refurbishing and reconfiguring both the boys and girls washrooms. The objective: enhance staff supervision while safeguarding student privacy.

Project:

The project started with our careful dismantling and strip out of existing fixtures and fittings in the washrooms. Then some construction work took place around the door openings to each washroom. Girls' washroom: Entrance doors were removed and walls were strategically removed to create the opened plan entrance into the corridor. Boys' washroom: A new washroom was created by knocking down walls and merging two existing washrooms into one.

All electrical, carpentry and plumbing works were included in the washroom refurbishment and walls were covered in hygienic wall cladding for an easy-to-maintain finish. Trovex Refined cubicles offered the perfect blend of increased privacy and durability - ideal for the school washroom environment.

Durable Trovex solid surface Smarttroughs were included in the washrooms with push taps for water saving. The Smarttrough can withstand heavy usage and provides a nice wide open space for handwashing in washrooms. Both washroom included an Ambulant cubicle in line with regulations, which was further enhanced with a dedicated basin.

Focus Washrooms 25 years of design and planning experience was instrumental in achieving the desired balance of staff washroom monitoring and ensuring student safety and privacy through careful cubicle placement and design. The layout was optimised to maximise the number of toilet cubicles in each washroom.

Challenges:

Adapting drainage under the hand washing area from open drains to the new layout required careful planning to ensure proper functionality of the new vanity areas. Focus Washrooms worked with budget limitations to deliver high quality new washrooms that didn't compromise on durability, functionality or aesthetics.

The Result:

The refurbished washrooms look excellent in a plum purple colour scheme and are easy to maintain and allow for enhanced staff supervision, all while respecting pupil privacy. The modern design, featuring high-quality materials and a well-considered layout, creates a pleasant and practical environment for students and staff alike.
